More Than One Perspective

Substance use and mental health concerns can affect everyone in a relationship or family. Couples and family sessions give space to discuss those experiences together, with attention to each person’s goals and concerns.

You may be returning to the same argument, finding it hard to express concern about substance use, or disagreeing about what kind of help is needed. In shared sessions, the conversation can include how each person experiences the situation. We do not begin by deciding who is at fault. We ask what brings you together and what each person wants the work to address.

Deciding What to Discuss Together

Before a shared session, consider what you want your provider to hear. That might be a concern about communication, the effects of substance use on a relationship, or uncertainty about how to offer support. You can bring a particular example rather than trying to explain every part of your relationship at once.

Finding a provider for relationship support includes considering what each person wants to discuss and whether shared sessions fit those concerns. You can ask about experience with couples and family work without deciding on a provider first. Contact us to discuss who is available and the kind of session you are seeking.

You can also use the free 15-minute consultation to ask whether individual support, shared sessions or family recovery coaching fits the concern you want to address. Ask about current group options directly. We will discuss the services available without assuming the same format is right for every relationship.

Caring Conversations, Without Blame

We approach relationship concerns with compassion and without judgment. Sessions can make room to talk about communication, boundaries and what support looks like for each person.

A session can focus on a recent conversation, the way concerns are raised or the boundaries each person wants to discuss. Speaking together gives your provider more than one account of what is happening. It also creates room to ask what support means to the people involved. We listen to each person’s concerns.

Couples, Families and Groups

We offer couples, family and group sessions. Ask us about the format that fits your circumstances and current group options. Recovery and wellness coaching is also available for individuals, families and groups.

Our offices are in Cheshire and West Hartford, with in-home and Connecticut telehealth options available to discuss. Ask which setting and service can accommodate the people involved, along with current provider availability. Coverage for shared sessions can differ from individual therapy, so ask us about your plan. We can discuss current rates and superbills for out-of-network care.
